4 records in high-speed run to the West Elbrus peak!

On May 7, 256 athletes from 15 countries of the world came to the start of the main event of Red Fox Elbrus Race festival – high-speed run to the West Elbrus peak (5642 m). The weather was very good and Elbrus Mount provided an opportunity for participants to show good results. 4 records were set during the race, including the women's world record!

166 athletes took participant at the Skyrace® - Mt. Elbrus 3780-5642 m. which started from Barrels. And 90 sportsmen started SkyMarathon® - Mt. Elbrus (2350-5642 m) from Azau glade. The main prize for winner of the SkyMarathon® - Mt. Elbrus (2350-5642 m) is the exclusive invitation to participate in the highest mountain European race Monte Rosa SkyMarathon.

The SkyMarathon® - Mt. Elbrus has the highest rating of mountain complexity in the world and the race joined the new Sky Summit Trophy series at this year!

Shyngys Baikashev (Red Fox Kazakhstan team) was the first who reached the top of Elbrus Mount: “I went out to fight for the record. The weather allowed and I tried as best I could. At the Pastukhov Rocks Yevgeny Markov motivated me with words “Shyngyz, you walk slowly,” and I added speed and finally reached the top first.”

Shyngyz Baikashev became the silver runner-up for two years in a row. And luck was completely on his side at Red Fox Elbrus 2019 and he crossed the finish line of SkyMarathon® - Mt. Elbrus, 2350-5642 m. (Sky Summit Trophy)with the time of 3 hours 30 minutes and 39 seconds.

While of fixing of alpine crampons at Pastukhov Rocks, Evgeny Markov relented the leadership to Shyngys Baikashev and reached the top of Elbrus Mount with silver medal and result of 3 hours 36 minutes 10 seconds.

Evgeny : «I got sloppy after Pastukhov Rocks and let to Shyngys lead the race” . However Yevgeny set a record of Russia and reached the top of Elbrus Mountain and got down in 4 hours 22 minutes 21 seconds! He showed the best time on the descent, passing this part of the route for 8 minutes faster than the world record holder Karl Egloff!

Vitaly Shkel (Kabardino-Balkaria) won the bronze medal in the SkyMarathon® - Mt. Elbrus, 2350-5642 m. (Sky Summit Trophy) and finished with a time of 3 hours 50 minutes 16 seconds.

Vitaly also set the unique world record! He reached both peaks of Elbrus Mount (Western peak and the Eastern peak) and descended to the Azau Glade!

This "alpine cross" Vitaly ran for 5 hours 49 minutes!

There was strong competition among women.

Anna Ogloblina (Red Fox Asia team) was the first who reached the top of the Elbrus Mount and set a new record of the Red Fox Elbrus Race festival with the best result in the SkyMarathon® - Mt. Elbrus, 2350-5642 m. (Sky Summit Trophy) among women - 4 hours 17 minutes and 33 seconds!

And also Anna Ogloblina set the new world record among women! She reached the top of Elbrus Mount and got down for 5 hours 35 minutes and 3 seconds!

Prior to this time, the record belonged to Oksana Stefanishina from Sochi (6 hours 25 minutes 23 seconds). Oksana Stefanishina became the bronze winner of SkyMarathon® - Mt. Elbrus, 2350-5642 m. (Sky Summit Trophy) with time of 4 hours 47 minutes and 35 seconds.

Anna did not expect to set record, but sports passion and tenacity did their job: “It was hard. The distance is cool, but I rarely training with run down. And in fact, I did not plan to be the first; it was big pleasure for me to run this race."

Elena Ruhlyada (Inov-8 Team Russia) won the silver medal in the SkyMarathon® - Mt. Elbrus, 2350-5642 m. (Sky Summit Trophy) with the time of 4 hours 26 minutes и 59 seconds: «The competition was strong in this race, and I like it. It's great to run with such a professional and strongest athletes . I will return again to the Red Fox Elbrus Race festival to take first place in the race! ”
