Results of the SkyMarathon® - Mt Elbrus, 2350-5642 m!

On May 6 the main event of the Red Fox Elbrus Race VII festival took place - a high-speed run to the West Elbrus peak (5642 m)!

133 athletes from 11 countries of Europe and Asia (Russia, Belarus, Poland, Switzerland, Spain, Germany, Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan, Mongolia and Japan) participated in the race!

According to past tradition, it was run in two classes to give professionals and amateurs a chance to compete in a speed ascent of Europe’s highest peak:

60 pro athletes entered the Sport class which started from the Azau Glade (2350 m) running to the summit at 5642 m, for a total elevation gain of 3308 m (10850 ft). This is part of the 2015 Russian National Skyrunner Series®: SkyMarathon® - Mt Elbrus.

73 amateur skyrunners participated in the Classic class, which started from the Barrels (3780 m), for a total gain of 1822 m (5976 ft.).

In the professional class Vitaly Shkel (Russia) won with a time of 3:29:04!

Vladimir Belyay (Belarus) led the amateur field with a time of 2:49:30!

Oksana Stefanishina, an athlete on the Inov-8 Team Russia and a member of the Russian Skyrunning National team, took first place for women! She set a new world record ascending over 3300 meters from Azau Glade (2350 м) to the top of Elbrus (5642м) in 4 hours 42 min! Moreover, she set a new world record on Elbrus – she ran to the highest peak of Europe then descended for a round trip time of 6:25:23!

It’s sunny and windy on Mt. Elbrus. There is a lot of fresh snow and it's very cold – temperature at the summit is -23°С, but it feels like -35° С (-32° F) with wind speed of 30 km/h (22 mph).

Vitaly took the 2nd place in the Vertical SkyMarathon® - Mt Elbrus within the Red Fox Elbrus Race 2014 festival.
2nd – Maxim Krivosheev: 4:04:27
3rd – Yuri Shtankov (Russia) employee of Red Fox company: 4:29:15

Women:
1st – Oksana Stefanishina (Russia) Inov-8 Team Russia: 4:42:00
Oksana took the 1st place in the Vertical SkyMarathon® - Mt Elbrus within the Red Fox Elbrus Race 2014 festival.
2nd – Nadezhda Ermakova (Russia): 5:04:00
Nadezhda took the 3rd place in the Vertical SkyMarathon® - Mt Elbrus within the Red Fox Elbrus Race 2014 festival.
3rd – Elena Lebedeva (Russia): 6:13:00
