The sportsmen from Irkutsk Vitaly Chernov (Red Fox Team) and Elena Kravchenko (Red Fox Team) became winners of Vertical Kilometer which took place today within the Red Fox Elbrus Race 2014.
Vitaly who practically all route went the third after Vitaly Shkel and Italian Marko de Gasperi outstripped the rivals for only some seconds already before the finish.
It is necessary to note the well-known young ski-mountaineerer Ekaterina Osichkina who despite that wasn't included in the main protocol of results of age came to the finish of the first. Her time - 54 minutes 3 seconds.
All participants of Vertical kilometer noted that this time the distance was much more difficult than in previous years.
"It was much more difficult than two years ago. It is a lot of snow, and, probably, I have not such good acclimatization. Absolutely it was impossible to run. It's very hard to breathe certainly. And I understood that my rivals are very strong" - Marko de Gasperi commented. The famous athlete didn't hide a smile having learned that his time record of two-year prescription isn't broken by Vitaly Chernov.
"I gave all the best. But I'm happy, - Vitaly tells. - I was adjusted on a victory. I knew that the first place will be played between the three of leaders. I kept for Vitaly all route. And the result is, of course, according to finish skills".
Elena Kravchenko didn't expect that will win: "I decided that I will run on the forces, evenly. On preliminary trainings I was intended just for this time and when ran a distance didn't know where the competitor.
Snow was the obstacle, in some places there were the snowdrifts".
Zhanna Vokueva (International Salomon Team) who only yesterday has arrived to Prielbrusye showed today excellent result, having taken the 2nd place: "I wanted to understand, whether I will be able to run in general. I went and listened to myself. I'm very happy with result! The difference with last year is only 6 seconds".
And, of course, all watched closely Vitaly Shkel, one of applicants for a victory in the main start - Vertical SkyMarathon®: "There wasn't a run. So no hope for good result. I passed the route not on a limit, there was a stock of forces. Vitaly Chernov surprised me with the finish, well done!"
In total 205 men and 50 women took part in Vertical kilometer - record number of athletes. They were influenced by new system of electronic control of results. Each participant was given out the chip, and on the finish the result was known right after passing of an electronic frame by them with sensors.
